The purpose of the proposed project is to construct WWTP improvements to replace outdated equipment and construct new components to improve treatment reliability and efficiency. The improvements will include new tankage, process equipment, piping and electrical work.

Impacts of the proposed project include temporary noise and dust associated with construction projects. The improvements should not cause measurable long term detrimental environmental impacts.

Preliminary estimated cost to users for the proposed project may result in an increase in user rates of approximately (up to) $16 to $22 per month per average residential user. This does not include the potential for a reduced project, principal forgiveness or other funding sources which may reduce these rate impacts.

Copies of the plan detailing the proposed project are available for inspection at the following location(s): City of Tawas City and East Tawas Municipal offices. Documents are also available on both municipality’s websites.  The wastewater treatment plant will also be holding an “Open House” for residents to tour the plant on Thursday, May 20, 2021 between 10:00 a.m. and noon.   Click here to view draft plan.

Written comments received before the hearing record is closed on May 27, 2021 will receive responses in the final project plan.  Written comments should be sent to Julie Potts, City of East Tawas, 760 Newman Street, East Tawas, MI 48730.
