The City of East Tawas is soliciting sealed bid proposals for a Contractor to furnish and install approximately 1375 LF of 8” diameter C-900 water main, retiring existing 4” & 6” C.I. main in place, along three blocks of Evans Street in East Tawas, MI. Included will be all service connections, hydrant, valving, etc., per the plans and specifications. The line will be installed in grassed areas just off the street edge. As part of the same project, an existing 12” storm water main is to be removed and replaced; totaling 980 LF. Where there are street crossings or asphalt pavement disturbances, the contractor will backfill with gravel, and paving will be performed by a Contractor already in the employ of the City. This contract will include excavation and base and subbase preparation, as well as installation of new piping and structures. Bid bonds are required. Payment and performance bonds will be required. Insurance will be required. Prevailing wage rates will not apply. There will be no organized site visit. Bids will be accepted until 2:00 PM, Tuesday July 31, 2018 at East Tawas City Hall, PO Box 672, 760 Newman St., East Tawas MI 48730, at which time they will be publicly opened and read. Award will follow after the City has had an opportunity to review the bids. References will be provided, if requested. Bids are to be submitted in a sealed envelope marked as, “East Tawas Evans Street Water & Storm Mains Bid”. Bid documents will be available for a non-refundable $40 per project set, with an additional non-refundable $10 if mailed. Documents are available from Russo Engineering, Inc., PO Box 187, 225 Sixth Avenue, Tawas City, MI 48764, phone (989) 362-7735 or from East Tawas City Hall, phone (989) 362-6161. The City of East Tawas reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids, however, it is intended to make award of a firm, fixed-price contract to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder based upon the rules outlined in the Bid Form. The City maintains a local contractor preference clause of 5% for award. There are liquidated damages. Construction is intended to be complete by Fall of 2018. An alternate bid for Spring 2019 construction is also requested. The project, excluding paving, is to be completed in 60 days or less.
