History of East Tawas Police Department and Tawas Police Authority
The first Chief of Police was appointed on May 6, 1929. His name was John Moran and he served until May 1935. The appointment in 1929 was as Chief of Police and Street Commissioner. (In May 1928, Mr. Moran had been appointed as Marshall and Street Commissioner.) The East Tawas Police Department provided police protection to the City of Tawas City under a joint agreement from February 1986 until the Tawas Police Authority was formed in 1991 to provide police protection to both East Tawas and Tawas City.
