Regular meetings are held at 7:30 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month in the Housing Commission Office located at 304 West Bay Street.
With the help of an Executive Director, the East Tawas Housing Commission manages the Bay Park Towers, two federally subsidized low-income housing developments in the City. Click here for a pre-application.
The Bay Park Towers are located across from beautiful Tawas Bay which has a wonderful sandy beach and picnic area. We are only two blocks from the downtown business district within walking distance of shopping, banks, restaurants, beauty and barber shops, a public library, fishing, biking and walking paths.
There is a local transit shuttle bus that is accessible to our residents at a minimal fee should they need a ride somewhere. A local grocery store also delivers to the Towers at a minimal fee. You never have to worry about shoveling snow or raking leaves; we take care of that for you!
The two Towers together hold 85 spacious one bedroom apartments within these five story high-rise buildings. Our local fire department holds annual drills for the residents and are trained and equipped to handle all floors. The South Tower, which is located closest to Lake Huron, was constructed in 1975. It holds 41 units with our main office being held on the first floor. The North Tower, which is located closest to downtown, was constructed in 1981. This newer building contains 44 units with four located on the bottom floor. The lobby area of the North Tower is air conditioned for those warm summer days.
With the exception of the units on the first floor, each unit has its own balcony. A stove, refrigerator, range hood, garbage disposal, ceiling fan, vertical blinds in the living room, and mini blinds in the bedroom are standard features in all of our rooms. You can opt to take the stairs or ride the elevator to the upper floors.
Each building has its own coin-operated laundry facility, community room with full kitchen, library, and inside mailbox delivery area. For your convenience, trash chute rooms are located on each floor, as well as storage areas to store your seasonal items. Both towers are secured; visitors must contact residents in the lobby through a phone system before being allowed through the lobby doors. Residents are welcome to have guests visit. Residents can also leave their apartments to take a vacation, visit family, etc. for up to two months per year.
Each apartment is approximately 600 sq. ft., consisting of one bedroom, living room/dining room combination, kitchen and bath. These units include ample closet space. Heating, electricity, sewer, water and trash removal are included in your monthly rent. Residents are responsible for their own cable television, and phone service. Rent is based on 30% of gross adjusted annual income.
