  • NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING - SIGN ORDINANCE AMENDMENT

    The East Tawas Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the East Tawas City Hall, 760 Newman Street, East Tawas, Michigan 48730. The purpose of the public hearing is to hear comments on a proposed amendment to Section 44-360, (5) Electronic message signs, of the East Tawas Zoning Ordinance.

    The amendment would insert the following language after (d) of (5) Electronic message signs:

    Properties within the HSC and WF zoning districts with frontage less than 200 feet shall be allowed one electronic message sign subject to the sign regulations of each Zoning District and subject to the following additional regulations:

    a. Illumination restrictions as set forth in Section 44-357.

    b. An electronic message sign shall be considered a part of a wall sign or freestanding sign and shall be located below the main sign. Such electronic message sign shall not exceed fifty percent (50%) of the total sign area as allowed per Zoning District and sign regulations of Article X. Signs.

    c. The maximum height and setback of an electronic message sign shall conform to the height and setback regulations for signs allowed in each Zoning District as specified in Article X. Signs.

    d. Message shall be text only and amber in color.

    e. The frequency of the message change shall be no more than once every 10 minutes.

    f. Message is to be static in nature without visual effects during display or during transition including text motion, fading or flashing.

     The complete language of Section 44-360, (5) Electronic message signs, is available for viewing at City Hall, 760 Newman Street, East Tawas, MI. Anyone unable to attend the public hearing may comment on the proposed amendment in writing. Comments should be sent to the City Clerk, PO Box 672, East Tawas, MI 48730. These comments will be brought to the attention of the Planning Commission during the public hearing.

  • Part-time Library Assitant opening

    The East Tawas Library is now accepting applications for a part-time Library Assistant.  (Approximately 20 hours per week.)

    • Computer experience essential.  Library experience helpful but not required.  
    • Must be good with people of all ages, detail oriented, and able to shift priorities frequently.
    • Hours will vary and include daytime, evening, and Saturday hours.  
    • Applications are available at the East Tawas Library, 760 Newman Street, as well as online at www.easttawas.com.  Applications can be turned in at the East Tawas Library during library hours or mailed to the library at PO Box 672, East Tawas, MI 48730.
    • Applications will be accepted until Saturday, September 22, 2018 at noon.

  • CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS ACCEPTED FOR PAYMENTS

    The City of East Tawas accepts credit/debit card payments for utility bills, tax bills and miscellaneous items at City Hall, over the phone or online through Graphite Municipalities.  You are able to view your utility bill and tax information through the online services tab on our website, but you will have to use the Graphite Municipalities link to pay your bill online.  Please click here or click on the Graphite Municipalities logo on our main page or on the water/sewer and tax information pages.  You may also call 989-362-6161 during our office hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and our office staff will be glad to take your payment over the phone.

  • Expanding Broadband Services

    In an effort to expand broadband services for Northeastern Michigan, Develop Iosco is teaming with Northeast Michigan Council of Governments (NEMCOG) by maintaining critical infrastructure such as high-speed internet access, sewer, water, and transportation that is necessary for all aspects of the traditional economy, as well as the new economy.   • LIBRARY COMMEMORATIVE BRICKS

    The Library Committee has commemorative bricks for sale and the profits from the brick sales will be used to continue to fund the new library.  The bricks provide a win-win situation as a perfect way to honor or memorialize a loved one and also benefit the new library.  Click here for the brick order form.  Engraving space is limited to four lines with a maximum of 15 characters per line. Please remember that a space counts as a character..

  • PUBLIC NOTICE - PROPERTY FOR SALE

    The City of East Tawas is selling lots 12, 13 and 14 of Eastland No. 2 Subdivision along Airport Road. Each lot is approximately 85’ x 150’. The purchase price is $10,000 per lot.     We are looking for residents who may be interested in serving on one of the City’s boards, commissions or authorities which currently include the following:

    If you’re interested, we ask that you submit a brief biographical summary including your area(s) of interest to City Hall. Your name will be added to a list that will be used to make recommendations to the City Council to fill vacancies.

  • Veterans Walk of Honor

    A Walk of Honor has been incorporated into the design of the Veterans Recognition Plaza located in the heart of Tawas City at the corner of US-23 and Matthews Street.  Brick pavers, donated by the City of East Tawas, are available to recognize a Veteran for a $100 donation.  Black Granite Benches are also available to recognize a Veteran for a $2,000 donation.  More information and an order blank are available here.
