Facade Loans Available to East Tawas Businesses

With cooperation from the weather, the completion of the State Street parking lot is in sight AND ahead of schedule.

This week the garden "champions" will be working to amend the top soil in the island gardens with peat moss and compost in preparation of planting perennials and flowers. Hargers' Nursery will deliver perennials and plants at noon on Saturday, May 19th. We need garden "champions" from businesses adjacent to the State Street parking lot to help with the planting. Diane Brewer from the Brew Krew is the lead champion for these gardens.

Following the planting, five sculptures will be placed in various island gardens.

The parking lot has been graded and asphalt is expected to be laid early next week with striping of the parking spaces to follow.

Mosquito Control Program

Advanced Pest Management has been contracted by the City of East Tawas to perform mosquito abatement for the 2012 mosquito season. This will consist of treating standing water areas to control mosquito larvae and truck fogging of city streets to control adult mosquito populations. Vectobac G (Bti,.2%Bacillus thuringiensis,israilensis) will be used for larviciding. Truck ULV Adulticiding will begin on July 26, 2011, weather permitting. Biomist 4+4 (4%permethrin,4% technical piperonyl butoxide) and Kontrol 4+4 (4.6%permethrin,4.6% technical piperonyl butoxide), will be used for adulticiding . Flood Insurance Rate Map Information

The City has been receiving many questions concerning the Federal Emergency Management Agency's new Flood Insurance Rate Maps. FEMA has not provided municipalites with the maps in paper form. Donate a bench to honor someone special or mark a milestone

The City is now accepting orders for 80-inch classic white oak benches with white metal arms. Your gift will be a long-lasting reminder that you care and your contribution will help beautify East Tawas. Benches will be located throughout the downtown.
